In ‘X’ the artist stands behind a custom made polling booth and invites the audience to ‘secretly’ mark his hands with the ‘X’ symbol using a tattoo machine. Each member can choose which hand to mark and they are allowed one shot only.

‘X’ was performed at MOTAT, Museum Of Transport and Technology (Auckland 2018), at The Vivian Gallery (Matakana 2018), at PAWA – Performance Art Week Aotearoa (Wellington 2018) and at Performance Arcade (Wellington 2019).

Ivan Lupi (born 1972, Ferrara, Italy). Masters in Queer Studies in Arts and Culture from the Birmingham University. Since 2001 Lupi has been one of the founders and active member of the collective Amae with which he has taken part in various collaborations and exhibitions in China, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Lithuania, United Kingdom. In 2016 Lupi starts his own production as a single performer along with Amae’s series of work.     It was an honour to have been part of a version of X today. Thank you so much for the experience. I cherish it. The piece is such a thoughtful and powerful one, which carries across so many layers of thinking and expression. Truly unique. It’s symbolic of the struggles people have gone through in their lives and the permanence of the positive outcomes, of some of these struggles.
